Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can't I do this all on my own?

A: Yes, you can. You can also file your own taxes, do your own legal work, fix your own car and build your own home. I'm all for self-sufficiency, but I also see the value in hiring an expert for certain things.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer, I will help you through two resources - my book, Student Loan Planning, and the Resources tab on this website. I am here to help people who want expert guidance to provide peace of mind.

Q: What exactly is included in the plan?

A: Once you have made your payment and provided me all the relevant information I will create a comprehensive plan including an analysis of your current loans, recommendations for the best repayment plan based on your goals, specific action steps to take, and follow-up to make sure everything is set-up correctly. I will also recommend for or against consolidation and refinancing.

You will not be charged anything until I have reviewed your initial application and have determined that I can help you. I will then send you an invoice and a link to pay along with a request for all the documents I need to create your plan.

I offer other services along the way, including annual reviews where we review all the documents to submit, and a final review where I help you file for forgiveness if applicable.

If you have questions along the way I will provide reviews and answer questions for $25 for 15 minutes. For example, if you have major life changes (i.e. change of employer, marriage, divorce, birth of a child, etc.) we will review how those changes could affect your plan. Before any changes are made to your plan, such as changing repayment plans, consolidating loans, etc., it is critical you set up a review prior to making any changes.

Q: Do you guarantee I will receive forgiveness under Public Service Loan Forgiveness?

A: No. If someone guarantees you forgiveness they are lying to you. No one can guarantee forgiveness. Congress may modify or eliminate the program at ANY time. They may pass a law that says you need to have called your grandma every 3rd Tuesday of the month to qualify. PSLF, and my services, are NOT guaranteed.

However, I will be there, by your side, to make sure you are taking all the correct steps and filling all the right forms.

Q: How long does it take to create my plan?

A: Plan on about two weeks from the time you have all the documents filled out and sent to me along with your payment.

Due to the intense time commitment I can only accept a limited number of clients each month. If I am fully booked you will be put on a waitlist after submitting your information. You will not be charged until after you get off the waitlist and you are ready to start.

Q: Should I stop paying on my loans while you create my plan?

A: Absolutely not! Continue paying on your loans while I create your plan.

Q: What qualifies you to offer this type of service?

A: I am a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Accredited Financial Counselor who specializes in student loan planning, and particularly in PSLF. I have studied student loans extensively and I speak frequently to groups and organizations about student loans.
